Meyer Lemon Sugar Scrub

I'm hosting a party in a couple weeks, but it's a surprise so I'll post pictures afterwards, so as not to give it away.  However, for the favors I decided to make homemade body scrub.  I decided on the lemon scent because #1: Our neighbor, Georgia, has a Meyer lemon tree and she gives us bags and bags full and #2: yellow is one of my theme colors for the party.  It's kismet!  Now, Aaron didn't know what a body scrub was, so I'll give you a definition in case you don't either.  Body scrubs are made of sugar or salt (for exfoliation), contain oils (to soften skin) and fragrance (so you smell good).  They are meant to be used in the shower/bath for you to SCRUB your BODY.  Hence the name, BODY SCRUB.  Feel dumb yet?  Okay, let's make our sugar body scrub!
Here's what we need:
Ingredients: extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, granulated sugar and Meyer lemons (or any old lemons...not old, you know what I mean!).
Tools: a bowl (this one gets a lot of play), a microplane or zester (to zest the lemons) and measuring tools.
First, I washed 2 medium sized lemons (we're using the skin, so it better be clean):
Then I dried them fully to get rid of the water:
Then I used my microplane (a cheese grater with tiny-er holes):
Here's what I had after zesting one lemon.  I couldn't capture the action because I'm not that talented.  However, you should know that when you zest you only want the yellow part.  The white part is bitter and NOT what you want.  Therefore, you have to keep rotating the lemon as you zest in order to get all the yellow and as little white as possible.  I'm a horrible explainer!  After zesting both lemons, I added 1 cup of granulated sugar:
Then I added a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil:
and two tablespoons of coconut oil (don't heat it up, as it might melt the sugar):
Now we just stir (I used a fork).  This is after 10 seconds of stirring:
This is after like 30 seconds of stirring:
The lighting is terrible!  You can't tell, but it is a pale yellow color.  I wanted it to be more yellow, so I added a drop (literally one drop) of yellow food coloring (you can totally omit this because it kinda takes away from the au natural part a little).  Anyway, here's how it turned out once I stirred that in:
That really is only one drop of food coloring!  Crazy huh??  I tried it out and it was a very good exfoliant, yet also really moisturized my skin.  Super cool!!!  I bought jars for the favors:
I'll show you the front in a couple weeks.  They are super cute!  One batch of scrub filled this entire container to the tippy top and had an extra couple spoonfuls (for me!!).
Make this today because not only is it all natural (can you say that about your body scrub/wash??), but it's also super cheap and easy.  You probably have most of the ingredients on hand.  Plus, they make great gifts.  People love homemade goodies, including me!  I'm going to go take a bath right now!  See ya!
