Girl's Weekend!!!

I spent the weekend with my two besties from college and it was most excellent!  I find it's always super fun (and therapeutic) to spend time with friends who have not only known you forever, but also know you really, really well (like held your hair while you puked in the street well).  We even lived together for four years, so there really is nothing left unsaid.  We don't get to see each other very often, so basically my diet is out the window for the weekend.  Trust me, those two things go together.  Let the fun begin!

DAY 1

I picked Zuriel up from the airport on Friday.
I don't know why I took a picture of this dumb sign.  I also don't know why I took a picture while driving, since I almost crashed right afterwards (not my best move).

First thing we did (after my near-death experience) was go to Trader Joe's to get provisions.
Champagne, wine, cheese, bread and chocolate (we threw some fruit in so we don't look like we've completely given up on ourselves).  Once we got to Mary's, I even arranged it on a platter to be fancy:
It looks like I arranged it beautifully and then a Wizard of Oz hurricane blew through and this is what we were left with.  We picked some awesome sounding wines:
TJ's has a great wine selection (I'm not a wine snob, I usually end up picking based on the bottle design and/or funny name):
I bet you can guess which bottle I picked.
Now that we had our snacks and drinks in order, we put on pjs and were ready to gab the night away:
This is fake gabbing (which we always try to make look natural for a candid shot, but it NEVER works):
Terrible.  I don't know why we keep trying (this is 3 different years of pathetic fake pictures).  I give up.

Zuriel scored some major cool points this year by getting us some swag:
No 30 year old these days can say they have lived a full life without having at least 12 tote bags.  I'm carrying this everywhere, I'd even wear it to church (if I actually went to church).  If you are offended by my tote bag, tell someone who cares because I sure don't!  In fact, I've never seen anything so awesome (and I've been to The Grand Canyon).  It was the perfect end to the perfect evening.

DAY 2

We slept in, went to brunch and then saw the movie Wild (BO-RING!).  Wild is a production featuring Reese Witherspoon (she wasn't half bad) and tells the story of a woman who decides to hike the Pacific Crest Trail up the coast of California all alone after her life hits rock bottom.  This blip sounds like it could potentially be interesting, but if you read between the lines this chick is just walking around by herself, which is exactly as fascinating as it sounds.  I mean, to be fair, she meets people and there are flashbacks about her life, but it's TWO HOURS LONG!  How much walking can a person be expected to watch??  That's a question I never thought I'd ask because I never thought I'd actually spend (waste) time watching walking.  I'm being a little harsh because both Mary and Zuriel genuinely liked it.  It's based on a true story, which is pretty cool, however the story is that she took a hike (literally), so in that case I can think of a million stories about my life that would be equally engaging.  Yesterday I drove for two hours!  There could be something there.  Okay, now I'm just being a dick.  Sorry Wild lady, that hike did look pretty treacherous and if you really found yourself then that's great, plus now you're rich, so that couldn't hurt.  I can't believe I actually wrote a whole paragraph about walking.  Sorry, moving on!

The movie was so great, that afterwards we had to go home and nap for a few hours to get ready for our night out.  Now, we're sophisticated 30 year olds, so we're not just going to a kegger at a frat house.  We went to a dueling piano bar and it was AMAZING!  It's nothing like what you're thinking.  Okay, it's probably exactly what you're thinking: there are two guys at pianos facing each other and they play/sing songs by request.
However, it's not what you think because of course they played classic oldies like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Uptown Girl," but they also played songs like "Dick In A Box" and "Fuck Her Softly" (Tenacious D).  This was one of my favs, just because it was so ironic to hear it sung by an old guy at a piano:

It's an absolutely moronic song, but I have to admit it was pretty hilarious.  Sorry the quality of this is shit, but you get the idea.  Overall, super duper fun night!

DAY 3

Since the theme of our book club was French, we hit up a French pastry shop:
and got a bunch of sweet and savory treats, which of course I arranged on platters.
This is our savory platter.  We've got quiche (veggie and bacon pea) and croissants (mushroom and ham/cheese).  Next is our sweet platter:
We got tarts (lemon and apple), a chocolate hazelnut croissant, cheese danish and macaroons.  Here's our table set-up with tea, of course:
We used the china tea pot I got Mary for her wedding:
We're all set for our book club!  Zuriel is the most prepared:
We're total nerds, but we have fun.

After our book club, when we were so full we thought we would puke and die, we did this:
We ate 7 candy bars of different weird chocolates.  Some were not bad (coffee, coconut and sea salt caramel) and some were torture (potato chip, chili cinnamon and ginger).  Okay, they were all torture.  I'm currently on an air and water diet to keep my pores from oozing some sort of sludge.

Then it was time to pack up and forklift my body back home.  It was a whirlwind of a weekend, but so super fun I can't wait for next year!  Bitches, out!
