Rio Tarcoles

As kind of a last hurrah before departing the Jaco area, we decided to take a cab a little north to Rio Tarcoles and check out some giant crocodiles.  Rio Tarcoles is right on the border of Parque National Carara, which is the closest national park to where we live.
After haggling with the cab driver (he wanted $50 to drive us there and back and we ended up paying $30....whoop! whoop!), we were off!  We drove by an adorable small town:
This is what the highway we were driving on looked like:
It's like they just paved a road through the jungle and it was beautiful.
After about 20 minutes, the driver stopped on a bridge (in the middle of the road!!) and let us out.  We looked over the edge and saw....nothing.
We were so bummed.  Then we crossed the street and looked over the other side of the bridge and saw:
This one got a little antsy:
This one has half his mouth missing:
Super crazy!  They were huge!  Not to mention the railing on the bridge wasn't really all that high.  I could have fallen in pretty easily and been croc food!  Speaking of which, our neighbors told us they read in article in The Tico Times the other day that someone committed suicide by walking into the river and getting eaten.  What a way to go!
While that was almost a legitimate option, we decided instead to find our cab and get a ride home, where we BBQ'd burgers and hung out in the pool til the sun went down.
Only 2 more days left in Jaco!
