Not much has been going on lately. It's been SUPER humid lately, making stepping outside that much harder. We're planning a small trip to Volcan Poas, a volcano north-east from Jaco next week sometime. More on that to follow.
We finally saw Fast and Furious and it was really good. Obviously, the story was garbage, but if you take it at face value and know it's an action movie and everything they say is going to be diarrhea, then you can appreciate it for what it is: AN ACTION MOVIE, DUH! The car scenes were pretty bad ass (not that I would even know if they sucked, I don't really do action movies) and the end with Paul Walker was really touching.
Through Travel Agent Deb, we have booked our Machu Picchu flights and excursion. So, once we get to Peru (April 28-May 2) we're all set. Machu Picchu is really touristy (not to mention really out of the way), so they're no getting around the over-inflated costs involved. As someone who's extremely budget-conscious (well, I'm trying), it's a hard pill to swallow. However, if you want to see the tourist sights, you gotta pay the price. From what I've researched, Deb got us a great price, so we're pretty happy. We've been under budget in Costa Rica, so the money we've saved for the past month will just about pay for Machu Picchu.
While hibernating from the heat, we've been watching Bloodline on Netflix and it's good stuff. The story unfolds painfully slowly, but the characters are really realistic and that's so rare to find on a TV show. Usually on TV, characters are either "good guys" or "bad guys" and you immediately know who you're supposed to like and who you're supposed to hate. That's not real life! We all have good and bad inside us, we're all confusing and convoluted and shitty. Nobody's likable (or hateable) ALL the time. No one has it "turned on" constantly. It gets on my nerves. If the right buttons are pushed, anyone is capable of murder. Anyone is also capable of compassion. It's hard to find a relatable TV character and on Bloodline there are like 5 of them, so that's why I'm into it.
So, last night we went for a romantic dinner at beachfront Malecon and it was beautiful. Here are the crappiest pictures of the restaurant ever taken:
We got to watch the sunset and it was blood red:
My shit camera phone couldn't capture it at all, but the sun was literally red like blood! It was stunning! We ordered drinks and watched the sun set:
It looked like a painting. Then we ordered food. I got the Ahi Tuna steak with mashed potatoes and veggies:
Anyone that knows me knows I love to read. I didn't realize how much I missed having a book to read until my neighbor, Tamara, randomly gave me a book.
Now, I've never really intended to read a biography on Nelson Mandela, but why not? He's fascinating and inspirational, so I'm gonna give it a shot. It's pretty hefty and probably not your average beach read, but that's never stopped me before. It's actually kinda sad how excited I am to start. Thanks Tamara!
We'll probably just chill by the pool today and go out on the town tonight. I'll try to take pictures if I see anything interesting.

Aaron got chicken wings and a burrito:
Ohhh yum! NOT! The food sucked! I've never eaten a tuna steak so overcooked in my life! There was no pink whatsoever, and if you eat tuna you know it should be really pink inside. Aaron didn't like his burrito either. Not only was it mediocre at best, but it was by far our most expensive meal yet. We spent almost $60! Needless to say, we won't be going back. Lately we've realized, the more expensive and fancy the restaurant, the more disappointing it turns out. It's sad because the ingredients are fresh, but it's executed so poorly. Maybe we're just spoiled? Either way, I'm not spending $60 on a meal I'm not happy with again. We're gonna stick to what we know and like.
