Yesterday we wandered around the city some more. This building was covered with shrubbery and I thought it looked cool:
We also found the local mall:
We made our way to another supermarket called Carrefour (Carrefour makes lots of generic products, like Kirkland at Costco). This is the deli section:
I had no idea what ANY of it was, but it definitely intrigued me. In the meat section I found the dreaded blood sausage:
Aaron and I have made a deal that we must at least try it before we leave. I hope I don't puke and die. They also had a little sausage cart:
And a bakery:
Argentina is known for their wine, so naturally they have aisles and aisles of wine:
These are the energy drinks in Argentina:
Next to the beverages, instead of beer nuts and chips, they have shelves and shelves of olives:
They sell fresh pasta and gnocchi:
They even had a fridge full of sardines and shucked clams:
Nutcracker nuts!
On the way home, we bought more sugar nuts from a stand on the street. This time we got walnuts, peanuts and sunflower seeds:
The walnuts were gross, the seeds were okay and the peanuts were still delectable. We live really close to the police station:
Random stop sign!
I made us a antipasti platter for dinner:
We bought a jar of chimichurri sauce, but alas it was not the same as Don Julio's. One of the best things ever is making a quick balsamic vinegar reduction. Buy a jar of balsamic vinegar and dump it in a pan on the stove until it thickens and gets syrupy sweet. Then you pour it into a bowl with some olive oil and a touch of salt and then dip bread into it. By far one of the easiest and yummiest glazes in history. You can even put it on chicken and it's fantastic!
After we stuffed our faces, we walked about 10-15 minutes to the local Cinemark movie theater.
You can buy your tickets at a computer in the lobby:
It's assigned seating:
Getting snacks:
Interesting selection for a movie theater, so we just stuck to popcorn (they do salty or sweet).
Yup, Aaron's wearing the squirrel pants. Lord, help me. We ended up watching The Avengers: Age of Idiots:
It was pretty corny, but I can see how people who are into the Marvel Comics would enjoy it. There is a little something for everyone: the guys are buff, Scarlett Johansson has giant boobs and there are more than a few action scenes.
On the home front, my mom had an excellent Mother's Day with my dad, brother and Brisi.
Kane and Capone are being terrors at Ryan and Sophia's, but she did post this cute picture of Kane:
How I miss my babies!
We've enjoyed getting to know Palermo, but we're also getting ready for our trip down south to Patagonia. It's the land of glaciers, penguins and icebergs. When you think of Argentina, most people don't really think about how icy cold it gets down south. I can't wait to see it!
