We ran out of propane for our stove last night and Dominique said he would get me another tank today, but when I woke up this morning I wanted eggs and I wanted them NOW! It was EARLY and Aaron was sleeping (he's not a morning person), so I decided to go out to breakfast by myself. Now, this was a first for me. I don't think I've ever gone out to eat alone EVER. I rarely even do fast food drive-thrus alone. I have never seen the point, if I'm alone I'll just eat at home. Going out to eat seems like a very social event, not something you do by yourself. Today was different, the monster in my belly was roaring and he needed eggs (a LONG time ago Aaron named him Baby Dill, which was a private joke at some point, but now I don't remember why...I know we're so weird).
I walked 10 minutes to Sunny Restaurant because I heard they made a mean breakfast and boy did they ever.
The breakfast came with coffee and it totally hit the spot:
The coffee here is so good. They have lots of coffee plantations in the central valley and in another life I would already be there getting the jitters because coffee used to be my oxygen. I have since weaned myself off (NOT easy...migraines for days!), but still enjoy the occasional cup and here in Costa Rica they've got the good stuff. It's well worth a little relapse.
For breakfast I ordered eggs "ranchero style" (which I guess means it comes with tomatoes, onions, cilantro and avocado) on a tortilla with red beans on the side. OMG so good!
It was not only super yummy, but really relaxing to just sit by myself and people watch. There are few things I love more than people-watching. I think it's so interesting to see people's lives go on right in front of me. I just wish less people thought it was so weird. Just keep arguing and ignore me staring at you!
Sunny Restaurant had a great ambiance because they played really good music. They played a lot of Jack Johnson (who doesn't love waking up early Sunday morning and listening to Banana Pancakes while eating eggs? It just makes sense) and the soundtrack to 50 First Dates (yes, I could tell because I've seen the movie a million times...loves it!), which has a sort-of beachy, mellow vibe. The perfect soundtrack for my Costa Rican life.
Before leaving Sunny, I realized something was going on. There was some HUGE bike race starting:
There were hundreds and hundreds of them. I don't know about you, but I get very uneasy around bicyclists. They're not my favorite people in the world, especially when I'm driving. In my head, I'm running them all down like I'm in Grand Theft Auto. I know lots of people bike for pleasure, just going for a joyride or to the store. Those are not the people I'm talking about (although I'm not a huge fan of you either). I'm talking about those spandex-wearing mother f***ers that just think they own the place. I'm sorry, but I could take you down, reverse and do it again without even damaging my car, so maybe a little road decorum?!? And NO ONE looks good in spandex OR bike shorts, so just get over yourself already.
In other news, Aaron's brother, Andrew, picked up the dogs yesterday and took them on a hike.
Aww my babies!!! How I miss them! Thanks Uncle Andrew for taking them out!
Okay, I've been talking about how weird citrus is here and I finally snapped some pictures so I could prove it to you (I know you didn't believe me). Let's start with the lime. They have the normal (dark green on the outside, lime green on the inside), but they also have this:
Yup, tastes just like a lime. Weird, right? It gets better. Now onto oranges. They don't really have normal oranges because every time I buy what looks like an orange (orange on the outside), it tastes like a lemon! I forgot to take a picture of that one. Here's orange number one (from our tree outside):
That's an orange (okay, it's not totally ripe, but it won't change color too much when it is). Finally, the other kind of orange:
Looks like a lemon on the outside, but looks/tastes like an orange on the inside. I just can't figure it out! Everything I buy is something else! Oh well, live and learn and then just forget it and buy a pineapple.
Still getting together all the pictures from Corcovado, so expect that either tonight or tomorrow!
