Not much happened today, we mostly hung out around the house. We did go to the grocery store and I bought some mixed veggies. Included was a tiny corn husk:
I peeled it and found a baby corn:
OMG adorable!
Then Aaron went outside and picked a couple starfruit.
I've never had them before, so we YouTubed a video about how to cut and eat them.
This is the wrong way to cut a starfruit. You can eat the waxy skin, but you're not supposed to eat the middle white portion. So, you're supposed to cut it in slices:
It was really tart and kinda sour, but with a mild fruity flavor. Not sure how I felt about it, maybe it wasn't totally ripe?
I'll try to snap a pic of the tree tomorrow (it's already dark).
In other news, my mom received my new camera, but when trying to ship it has encountered some problems. Mailing a package to Costa Rica from another country is a nightmare. Customs is super corrupt and can pick and choose what they want to open and "inspect." They can also decide whether or not to impose a tax (can be expensive, like up to 50% the value of what you're receiving). They can hold your items at customs and make you go pick them up and some even get "lost in transit." We're planning to ship through UPS and I already know I'll have to pay a tax, I'm just hoping it gets here!
Apparently, there was a volcanic eruption today at Turriabal, shutting down the airport for awhile. I guess they're still having issues with ash. Crazy!
I hope nothing like this happens when we're leaving (knocking on wood as we speak).
Goodnight from Costa Rica!!
