Pelorus River, Nelson and Abel Tasman National Park

We woke up the next morning and had to stretch our bodies for 5 minutes to feel normal again after sleeping in the car (this is gonna be a long week).  For reference, here's Pooey:
Could we be living out of a smaller car??  Well, we're both always up for a challenge.
After changing out of our pjs, brushing our teeth and peeing in a bush, we were ready to start the day.

Our first stop was the Pelorus River.  We purposely camped right next to it because we wanted to see it first thing before we hit the road.  Speaking of hitting the road, here's a map of the day's driving:

We started on the far right and made our way up to Totaranui Campground in Abel Tasman National Park.  It took us a lot longer than 3 and a half hours because we stopped a bunch of times and took a few scenic routes, not to mention some of the roads aren't in the best shape, forcing us to drive much slower.
Here's a zoomed out map, so you can get some perspective (yea, I'm way too into this):
It's kinda small, but I tried to label some stuff for ya.  Basically we're spending the day at the tip top of the South Island.  Let's hit it!

Pelorus River:
Where's Aaron?
Can you spot me?
I don't know why I'm sticking my hand out like I'm hitchhiking.
Here are some scenes from the movie, for reference:
We weren't exactly at the same part of the river, but close enough for me!

We drove from Pelorus to the town of Nelson, where we ran into an outdoor market.  I love outdoor markets and Aaron knew we were in for a long morning.
We didn't buy anything cool, but I got a bunch of fresh fruit and veggies and a loaf of fresh bread.  Mmmmm!

We drove to the gorgeous cathedral nearby for a looksie:
Pretty.

We left Nelson for Abel Tasman National Park, but took the scenic route, so it took us a few hours to get there.  On the way, we happened upon the oldest pub in New Zealand:

We drove through wine country:
I thought this was funny:
Use your imagination.  Or maybe don't.

Once we entered Abel Tasman, we drove up a long, windy road to the top of a mountain:
It was an insanely beautiful drive.
Wow, check out Pooey:
Shameless.
It's like another planet!
We stopped at a tiny market on the way and got ice cream:
OMG so good!

After half an hour of driving on a super sketchy, unpaved road, we made it!
We checked in at the front desk:
It was $15/person, which is pricier than other campsites we've stayed in, but it's at the tip top of the South Island right on this amazing beach:
Have you ever seen orange sand??
Yipee!  We were so stoked to get in the water, we found a spot to park, changed and took a quick tour of the site:
BBQ pits and tables:
Fresh water:

We couldn't wait any longer, so we ran to the beach!
Swimming!
After our swim, shower and making sandwiches out of our goods from the Nelson market, we hopped back in our car and watched movies until nightfall.  We would have liked to sit outside, but the sand flies were vicious!  These tiny, black bugs were all over our feet and legs and when they bit, you felt a sharp sting.  It was kind of unbearable, so we opted out of a romantic sunset and into a romantic movie night in our cramped car.  What could be better?
