We're enjoying our relaxing existence in Melbourne and I thought I'd take some pictures for you.
You've seen our apartment already, which is 75% of our lives, so here's the other 25%, walking into town and going to the library. Keep in mind, this isn't all that scenic and I took some random, borderline terrible pictures.
We start off on our street and walk under the train overpass.
We pass these fun posters on the way:
Check this guy out:
Then we dart across all these lanes of traffic:
Almost there!
Whew we made it! You can see our apartment way back there:
Now we walk on this path next to the train station, under the freeway:
We come out here:
and go right:
We pass Debney Park:
Keep walking:
We walk until we get to actual stuff:
This is where we ate our first night:
This is The Quiet Man, the local Irish pub. We went the other night and met some really nice people, including the bartender, Ohren, who comes straight from Ireland.
This is Brittany, our new friend:
No idea what we were laughing about.
Local businesses:
We tried Somali food yesterday and it was so bomb!
Here's the menu, in case you're interested (sorry about the glare):
We ordered the sampler, with rice, lamb, some apps (falafels, a flaky pastry with meat and meatballs) and a yogurt, mango, coconut, almond parfait:
Everything was delicious! It reminded me of Indian food, but a little less spicy. The lamb was so tender, we were in heaven. Somali food on the list of my new favorites.
Local market:
Asian market:
The actual grocery store is another couple minutes walk, right after that overpass:
Library:
This is the computer you can borrow books from, so you don't have to ever actual look another human in the face. I use it every day:
This is their New Releases shelf AKA my favorite place:
they have several DVD racks, where we get movies all the time:
Up there is a quiet room, where we usually sit and work on the computer:
My new read:
Isn't our life super exciting right now??
Yesterday, we went to Woolworth's (the grocery store) and bought a little tree and streamers:
We balled up the streamers to make ghetto ornaments:
It's super cheap-o, but we love it!
Check out the sky last night:
So that's our life right now. Boring and slow, but we're loving every minute of it.
We planned and booked our trips to Port Lincoln (cage diving with great whites) for January 13-15th and Cairns (Great Barrier Reef) for January 20-24th. We fly back to Sydney on the 24th and our flight out of Australia is on the 25th, when we head to New Zealand. Until then, look forward to a lot more pictures of the library, food I'm cooking and books I'm reading. Yipee!
Still haven't ventured to downtown Melbourne yet, we're planning our first trip on Wednesday when we go to a Hopsin rap concert. I'll take pictures!
Aus and NZ are known for lamb. That's why it was so good. Can't wait to see Melbourne!
