Back In Bangkok: Day 2

Yesterday we went to the ZOO!  It was so much fun!
The zoo surrounded this lake and you could rent a paddle boat and paddle your way around if you so desire (to torture yourself!  Paddling sucks!).

Apparently this albino deer was pretty rare:
It had beady red eyes.  Creepy.
Tapir:
I got some sort of ink under my fingernail.  It's still there as I'm typing this.  Gross.
I tried really hard to get a pic of this two-headed turtle, but it was surrounded by dirty glass and I couldn't use my flash:
My new favorite fish ever:
Have you ever seen a longer turtle neck?
Albino:
Really cool marine exhibit!  I had never seen some of that stuff before!

This black bear sleeping was adorable.
This ATM was cracking me up!

Reptile exhibit:
We're not sure what this is, but we assume it's snake "poop" because it looks like a crushed mouse skeleton.  Weird.
Crikey!
Super cool!

This monkey's wearing pants!
Whoa, he's taking this way too seriously:

I'm sorry, say what??!?
Umm, here's a thought: how about don't name majestic, innocent creatures Bin Laden??  Especially at a public zoo!  Insensitive much??

The penguins were super social.  They were following Niny's finger back and forth across the glass.  They were just fascinated by us.

After all the animals, we took a break in the arcade:

Then the fatties just had to get some KFC:
Overall, we give this zoo 2 thumbs up!

Saw this at a stand on the way back:
Yummy!

Our hostel was celebrating it's one year anniversary, so they had a free buffet for everyone with all kinds of strange and exotic foods.
I'm bummed to say that by the time we got there we had missed most of it (apparently it was ginormous), but we still got some free grub out of it.

We relaxed for a bit and then got ready because we joined a Beer Tournament the hostel was having.  It was 6 teams of 3 and we called ourselves "The Beer Bellies."
There were 3 events (flip cup, a really funny combo of beer pong and flip cup and a beer chug contest).
For 200 Bhat (about $5.50), you get this stamp:
all the beer you can drink and entry into the tournament.
We ended up coming in 4th place (we weren't that great), but it was super fun!
Most of the people currently staying at the hostel are in the Peace Corps, so we basically crashed a Peace Corps picture:
Oops!

Then we got ready and took Niny to Khao San Rd, where we partied and the boys ate disgusting bugs, starting with these grasshoppers:
Yup, my boyfriend ate a tarantula:
and more scorpion:
and this giant cockroach:
This lady is way too excited:
We met a really cool guy from L.A. named Pat, so naturally we made him eat bugs too:
It was both a hilarious and gross night.

As you can probably guess, today we just slept and lounged.  However, I promised Niny I would take him to my favorite restaurant.  No idea the name, but I stumbled upon it last time I was here and they have excellent dim sum:
We ordered so much food it was kind of obscene:
The waitresses were literally laughing at how much food we ordered, but we got it all (including drinks) for $43!  We probably ordered enough to feed the entire hostel, but since it was basically our only meal that day, we ate it all!  And I don't regret one bite!

Tomorrow is our last day in Bangkok and Niny's last day before going home, so after we check out of the hostel we might try to do some last minute exploring before catching our flights.  Aaron and I have a flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia at 8pm and Narayan has a flight back to Phuket at 9pm, after which he will catch a couple flights back to California.  It'll be a long 24 hours for him, but I'm sure he'll say it was worth it!
