Step 1: go to Trader Joes (I've seen them at Safeway and Costco occasionally too) and buy naan bread. At TJ's it comes in oblong disks and at Safeway and Costco they're round. Pick your poison, your stomach doesn't know the diff. Here in Greece, they don't have naan, so I settled for pita bread.
Here are my ingredients:
I've got my pita bread (a not-as-good-as-naan substitute), tomato sauce (I just buy cheap spaghetti sauce..I know it's not homemade so I suck, but keep in mind that this is a quick, super easy weeknight meal), shredded cheese (no, I didn't shred it myself...ugggg), and whatever meat and veggies your heart desires. I've done 4 cheese before, BBQ chicken (with BBQ sauce instead of tomato), all veggie with pesto sauce, the options are endless! Today I'm doing bell pepper, onion, tomato, zucchini and salami (we couldn't find pepperoni anywhere).
Slice your ingredients:
And build your own pizza!!! Start with a foil-lined baking sheet (or pizza stone or whatever fancy people use), place the naan on top (you can put them as close as you like, they don't spread), and tomato sauce those suckers (I like a generous amount of sauce):
The step I skipped is the part where you oven roast the veggies first, but we don't have time for that today, so just make sure you slice everything pretty thin. Sprinkle the cheese (I like an even more generous amount of cheese) and add the toppings:
Mine is on top and Aaron's is on the bottom (he doesn't eat cheese). These pitas are not ideal, as they are smaller and thicker than I like (that's what she said...sorry I had to (CPLB, that one's for you!)), but oh well. Your pizzas will be better.
Now shove them in the oven just to heat everything through. I usually put my oven at about 400 and just watch everything (maybe 15-20 minutes, since the veggies are raw).
I forgot to take a picture when it came out because we just shoved our faces in it like animals, but it looked basically like the before picture, just with a nice tan.
Make naan pizzas next time you're in a bind and have no time (hey, that sorta rhymed!). I've made all different kinds on all sorts of occasions and people love them!
Join me next time when I accidentally set my hair on fire sticking my head in the oven to get the pizza in my mouth faster (think Michael Jackson Pepsi commercial).
Love naan pizza πππ
